Terms used in Indian

Bharata Nătyam - Indian classical dance style from South India
Kathak - Indian classical dance style from North India mainly Jaipur and Lucknow
Kuchipudi - Classical dance style from Kuchipudi village in Andhra Pradesh
Mohiniattam - Classical dance style from South Indian state of Kerala.
Odissi - Classical dance style from Orissa (India)
Kathakali - Indian classical dance drama of Kerala, a state in south India.
Nritta - Pure dance involving hand and body movements
Nritya - Interpretative aspect of dance involving Abhinaya
Bhăva - Mood
Thillana
- A lively musical form, usually set to be rendered in brisk pace. It is the Carnatic counterpart of the North Indian 'tarana'.
Rangapravesam or Arangetram -
This is the blossoming of the student of Bharatnatyam into a full-fledged artist and enters the stage for the first time.
Mudhras
are a means of communication for
the dancer to express the theme of the song. Common in south Indian classical dance.
Adavus-
are the basic steps taught to the students in Bharatanatyam.

Terms used in Indian classical music   
Karnatic Music/Carnatic Music - the classical music of South India.
Hindustani Music - North Indian classical music.
Rag/Raga/Ragam: A melodic concept within certain strict rules. Ragas are groups of notes that organise melody.Common in Indian classical music.
Tal/Tala/Talam :A time cycle, a rhythm structure and a measure applied in the act of keeping time.Common in Indian classical music.
Laya: Rhythm or Tempo. The tempo is regulated. The duration of rest between two strokes of 'matra' Is laya.Common in Indian classical music
Gharana : A school Of music representing a specific musical lineage or tradition.Term used in North Indian classical music.
Bol - This is the mnemonic system where each stroke of the drum has a syllable attached to it. These syllables are known as bol. Term found in Northy Indian classical music.
Bhajan — a hindu devotional song. Bhajans are sometimes used as light classical repetoire
Mridangam: A percussion instrument which is a common accompaniment in south Indian classical music and dance.
Tabla: A percussion instrument which is a common accompaniment in north Indian classical music and dance.
Guru-Shishya Parampara -The traditional teacher-disciple method of learning all forms of Indian classical music.

Konark in Orissa is popularly known for its world famous ‘Sun Temple & also for the annual ‘International Konark Dance & Music festival’. Since last 21 years, Konark Natya Mandap is celebrating this festival which embraces both dance & music artistes from around the globe.

With carvings of beautiful dance sculptures as well as a beautiful temple, the hugh open air stage, is all set for this year’s much awaited 22nd edition of the said festival. Surrounded by countless number of trees, pollution free air and a congenial environment, the venue seems just perfect for experiencing Divine pleasure.

The director of the festival is Shri Gangadhar Pradhan who is himself an eminent Odissi guru & a graceful dancer. Orissa dance academy (Bhubaneswar), Konark Natya Mandap (Konark) and Orissa tourism are the festival organizers and the event is supported by BSNL, KIIT, TATA Steel ltd, State bank of India & Vedanta alumina ltd.

The festival will commence on 19th February 2007 and will continue for three days. Along with presentations of dance and music, the festival will also have a ‘Sahitya Utsav’.

The first day of the festival will begin with a Panchadeva Stutee & Konark Kantee which will be presented by Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar. This will be followed by a Flute Recital by Jabahar Mishra, Cuttack.

Ms. Sibani Patnaik from USA will present Odissi dance which will be followed by a Kathak Dance performance by Ms. Nalini & Kamilini, New-Delhi & then would be a Mayurbhanj Chhau Dance presentation by the Mayurbhanj Chhau Dance Project, Baripad - (Sponsored by,Central Sangeet Natak Akademi)

The second day will start with an Odissi Vocal by Mahapatra Minati Bhanja, Bhubaneswar with Mardal Accompaniment by Guru Jagannath Kuanr. Next will be an Odissi Dance performance by Ms. Dipti Abhilasha from Switzerland & Ms. Dipti Mishra, Bhubaneswar. Then a Bharatnatyam performance will follow which will be given by Ms. Prakruti Bhaskar & troupe from Mumbai. Next would be a Group Odissi Dance performance by the Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar

Which will be followed by a Bihu Dance performance - (Sponsored by E.Z.C.C, Kolkata)

The third day of the festival will showcase a Gotipua Dance by Konark Natya Mandap, Arka Vihar, Konark, Kuchipudi dance by Ms. G. Sandhyarani & Mr. Siva Chandra, Hyderabad, Group Odissi Dance by Ms. Aloka Kanungo, Kolkata, Sambal Puri Dance Presented & Sponsored by Gunjan Dance Academy, Cuttack & a Bihu Dance performance (Sponsored by E.Z.C.C, Kolkata).
